So much wrapped up in so little

There's a simple little web page out there called Telescopic Text set up by Joe Davis. I just came across it today and it is absolutely brilliant in illustrating something we all take for granted.

Within every moment and every action there are many smaller moments and action. Most of them, we glide over, paying them no mind. In the name of expediency, we reduce things down to their most basic, their most terse.

By doing that, we excise almost everything that makes the experience itself worthwhile.

We lose the flavor, the context, the reason behind and within the action. It is left bland, colorless and unimportant. It has no connection to us or the world around it.

But if we drill down and pay attention to every step in the process, if we act consciously and with purpose, every experience becomes all the more rich and vibrant. Even our day to day grind can take on a vibrance that we had long ago forgotten exists.

Even better, when we actually look we discover that even those actions we thought were whole in and of themselves are made up of smaller part, more facets to explore and savor. They become rich with texture and tickle all the senses. They become real, not just statements of fact.

Davis illustrates this by allowing us to start with the simple statement "I made tea." From there, we are allowed to expand the various actions and atmosphere that turn that statement into a full, rich experience.

How rich and real do you allow your experiences to be?
